Beard and mustache popularity is at an all time high and as a result a wave on new products have been creating to provide grooming, maintenance, and aid in the growth and overall health of facial hair. With so many choices and product offerings it is hard to know which product does what and/or which product is right for you. Lets take a look at some of the various product offerings, describe their purpose, and examine things to look for when purchasing your beard products. To begin, I would like to state that the product descriptions below are for Magnanimous Beard Products only. Not all beard products are the same so what we are describing is exclusively for these product offerings. Some beard balms do not provide hold while others do, some beard oil is extremely beneficial to all areas or your skin, while other beard oils may not be, etc.
The king of all beard products - beard oil. In short, beard oil is a moisturizing skin treatment and a hair softener/conditioner. Beard oil is typically comprised of various oil combinations, however some beard oil may only have one type of oil in it (a lot of people just use coconut oil for example). Beard oil is applied by placing a desired amount in your palms, then lightly rubbing your palms together, and then working the oil to the skin and throughout the beard / facial hair. Magnanimous Beard Oil is created by combining seven different oils together because each oil provides a different health benefit for your skin and facial hair. Beard oil is used to treat the skin underneath and around the beard. Men will experience "beard itch" when growing facial hair and this itching usually comes from dry skin. As a result, beard oil comes into play to moisturize the skin underneath and around the beard or facial hair. In addition to moisturizing the skin, beard oil also nourishes and softens the facial hairs so that the hairs are not so dry, pokey, and scratchy. Beard oil is not just good for beards, it is wonderful for skin and hair. Remember, not all beard oils are the same and it all comes down to the ingredients. The reason Magnanimous Beard Oil uses seven different oils is because each of the oils provides you with a unique health benefit. Think of your beard oil in comparison to a multivitamin. Are you going to take a multivitamin that only offers one, two, or three vitamins vs a multivitamin that provides you with all the required vitamins your body needs? Oh course not and the same is true with beard oil. If a beard oil only has one, two, or three oils in it ingredients, your beard, skin, and hair are not getting the nutrients required for healthy growth. So look for beard oil that has a variety of oils combined so that your beard/skin can obtain necessary nutrients. Beard oil also comes in a wide variety of scent options so always look for beard oils scented with essential oils and NOT from perfumes or fragrances. Beard Butter: Beard butter has become very popular. Part of the reason for this has been to bad experiences from using poor quality beard oils (greasiness, bad smell, ladened with chemicals, etc.). Beard butter looks and feels very similar to regular butter (hence the name "beard butter"). Magnanimous Beard Butter is made by combining mango and shea butters, five organic certified oils, and a few other ingredients. Beard butter provides a deep conditioning of beards and facial hair and it is also very good for your skin and hair. Beard butter does not provide shaping or control of your facial hair, it softens and moisturizes. The only negative to beard butter is that it must be kept near room temperature. If exposed to higher temperatures, the beard butter will melt and turn to a liquid. However, the benefits far out way this negative. To apply beard butter, place desired amount into your palms and rub your palms together to melt the butter. Apply to your skin and throughout your beard/facial hair. Beard Balm: Beard balm is used to provide light-to-medium hold of your facial hair / hair. Beard balm is typically made by combining beeswax, butters (mango, shea, etc.), oils, and more... As your beard grows from a short, close kept beard to longer beard, you will experience areas of rogue growth or hairs that grow at different rates and lengths (these hairs are known as flyaways). Beard balm comes into play to help tame these flyaways and makes them lay down and appear more uniform in appearance. To apply beard balm a dab of the product is placed in your palms and then it is heating by friction (rubbing your hands together). After heating the product, the beard balm is applied to your beard. As mentioned earlier, not all beard balms are the same (some don't provide hold or shaping...) so you will have to find a beard balm that performs the way it should. Lastly, beard balm does provide conditioning and softening, however not as effectively as beard oil or beard butter. Beard Wax: Also known as mustache wax, provides a medium to strong hold and is designed with mustache shaping in mind (handlebar mustaches). Although primarily designed to shape and style those magnanimous mustaches, some beard enthusiasts use beard wax to control stubborn spots, curls, etc. in their beards. Beard wax is very similar in composition to beard balm often having the exact same ingredients but with different ratios of the those ingredients (more wax, less oil, etc.). As with all products, not all beard or mustache waxes are the same so you will have to experiment and assess reviews to determine which wax is the best for you. In summary, not all beard products are the same. They utilize different ingredients, provide different results, some utilize chemicals while others are all-natural and chemical free. Beard oil is used as a skin moisturizer and hair softener and beard butter provides very comparable results. Beard balm and wax is used to shape and control your beard / facial hair. Although balms and waxes do provide some moisturizing and conditioning, their primary function is to shape and control your facial hair(s). As with any product, always assess the ingredients and analyze reviews prior to making beard product purchases.
